Mount Manning Meteor Cairn Finding Mission

The trip’s official start point will be Yellowdine Roadhouse, about 400km from Perth and meeting time is 09:30 for a 10:00 departure.
Ian Tomlinson, who is trip leader will be camping at Karalee Rock on Thursday 1 April 2021 evening, which is approximately 19km from Yellowdine Roadhouse and the track to Karalee Rock is around 4 km on the left, so anyone joining the trip is welcome to join him for the Thursday night.
The first leg is about 300km bush driving to Mt Manning where we plan to camp for the first night. Saturday will be spent looking for the Cairn and if found, marking the meteor site. Depending on the location, we will either spend another night at the foot of Mt Manning or head north to Johnson Soak/ Rock. Our arrival time at Johnson Soak will then determine whether we continue on to Mt Elvire Station or Pigeon Rock
Sunday will be spent heading south to Mt Jackson and have a look around Elechbutting Rock for our Sunday Camp. We will head home on Monday morning.
This trip is the epitome of remote travel and all travelers need to be entirely self sufficient. Fuel for around 800km need to be carried and and water provisions of 20 liter per person per day (60 liter minimum) as well as all food need to be brought with you. This is not a difficult or hard trip, but remote travel common sense need to prevail.
We plan on having camp fires, but those are subject to compliance with the restrictions of the local councils. The tracks might be overgrown and while off-road campers are welcome, we cannot accommodate caravans at all.
Last fuel before the start point is Southern Cross, about 30km before Yellowdine Roadhouse, so please top up and ensure you carry enough for 600km of off-road driving (as above, plan for 800km to compensate for higher usage figures off-road).
Ian will be carrying a PLB with text function in case of emergency.

Grey Project Weekend

[wp-members status=”in”]

This is our first track care project weekend for the year and both a worthy cause and some fun beach track driving in areas often not accessible without authorization.

We will meet at the end of the bitumen road heading into Grey and meeting times will be confirmed once final arrangements are in place.

Camping on the Saturday night will be in a location specifically selected by the local rangers and promise to be picturesque as usual. This trip is however not suitable for camper trailers, so all attendee must be entirely self sufficient for the 2 days and the night’s camping.

Working with the DBCA and TTTA as well as other groups, the 2 days will continue the work along the recently opened Wanagarren Track.
