Grey Project Weekend

[wp-members status=”in”]

This is our first track care project weekend for the year and both a worthy cause and some fun beach track driving in areas often not accessible without authorization.

We will meet at the end of the bitumen road heading into Grey and meeting times will be confirmed once final arrangements are in place.

Camping on the Saturday night will be in a location specifically selected by the local rangers and promise to be picturesque as usual. This trip is however not suitable for camper trailers, so all attendee must be entirely self sufficient for the 2 days and the night’s camping.

Working with the DBCA and TTTA as well as other groups, the 2 days will continue the work along the recently opened Wanagarren Track.

TW4 Living Military History Trip

[wp-members status=”in”]

Landys, Tanks and guns…a chance to experience and view Australia’s rich military history.
Cliffy and Darren invite all Team W4 members to a trip to Coolilup in WA’s Southwest (well just South of Bunbury) to experience shooting vintage service rifles used buy our ANZAC’s in WW1 & WW2 as well as entry to a private military museum on the Sunday where you will be able to view items of our military heritage not open to the general public. We will meet at the BP in Baldivis Southbound on the Forrest Highway and from there we will make our way to Coolilup Rifle Range for lunch and a quick off-road session. You will then be given a briefing and possibly a brief history of the Light Horse in WA. You then have the opportunity to shoot vintage service rifles (the Lee Enfield 303 and others). We will then retire to the club rooms for dinner, refreshments and yarns before turning in for the night. After breakfast on Sunday we will set off for Coolup at 9:30 taking the roads less travelled at a series pace. Once in Coolup we will break for lunch and afterwards enter the museum. We anticipate being finished up there by 3pm at which time we will take Southwest Highway to Armadale where we will bid you all farewell.
‣ Camping on range available with kitchen, BBQ and hot showers (powered sites as well)
‣ Sausage sizzle lunch Saturday & Bacon and Egg breakfast provided Sunday morning by the club.

Driving the longest beach in the SW

[wp-members status=”in”]

It’s Summer, Saturday, and we’re at the Beach. It will be a long relaxed day, with almost 3 hours of daylight to drive home in.

Here’s the trip plan. It’s 73Km of beach….

We get on the beach just south of Tim’s Thicket, and drive along the beach till the cut at Koombana Bay (Bumbury).

8::00 Meet at BP Baldivis, Freeway Southbound
8:30 Depart for Tims Thicket to let down tyres.
9:30 Have morning tea when we get on the beach at White Hills, along with a swim.
10:30 Get going.
12:30 Stop for lunch, around half way, and another swim.
13:30 Get on the way again
15:30 Relaxed afternoon tea (or a coldie if it’s hot) at the cut, plus swim.
16:30 heading to nearest legal beach exit to pump up tyres and go home.
17:00 Head home

Needed are Recovery Points, Basic Recovery Gear, Compressor, CB radio would be handy.

Difficulty is 1-2….. Great for older kids to practice on, so you don’t get tired….. 🙂 Beach will be soft. 15psi lets you roll all over it quite easily. 🙂

Last year we had a big group of visitors in the convoy. This year we want more!!!! But we really need more members to come for a drive.

At this stage, we can’t get back on the beach at Myalup, so we need to go back out to the Highway and come back in again. It’s not much of a detour. It’s only 2km of HWY, and not worth pumping up the tyres for. We’ll just take it easy, and it’s no issue.

Avon Valley National Park

[wp-members status=”in”]

Our first Bush and National Park trip for the year!

Meeting point will be at the corner of Chittering Road and Chittering Valley Road at 08:30 for a prompt 09:00 start.

We’ll be heading into the National Park for some loose rocky climbs, bush tracks (pin-striping likely!) and some interesting descents.

The trip is rated 2-3 and all track can be done comfortably with a standard Land Rover vehicle. There will be opportunity for some challenging terrain for those who feel up to it. Total distance on the tracks would be around 50km.

Due to the nature of the trip it is mandatory that all vehicles have rated recovery points front and rear and everyone attending have basic recovery gear to suit their vehicle (ie snatch strap and bow shackles to match). Please ensure you have a 2-way (preferably vehicle mounted), but if you do use a hand held, please ensure it is fully charged.

A couple of trip limitations:

1. Unfortunately no dogs allowed. There is a lot of 1080 bated poison about and we would hate for your pooch to fall victim to poisoning.
2. Should the Shire call a fire/ harvest or movement ban, the trip will need to be postponed and this will be entirely on the trip leader’s discretion.
3. We will have to limit attendance to 10 vehicles, so please get your names down as soon as possible.

There is a possibility of running the same trip on Saturday 1 February should there be enough interest, so please let us know if you would like to take up that option.

Trip Leader for this one is Ian Tomlinson
